NOMINATE AN ATHLETE
Deadline for nominations is Wednesday, March 7, 2018.
Older than the Heisman Trophy, the AAU James E. Sullivan Award has been presented annually since 1930 to the most outstanding amateur athlete in the United States. Representatives of the AAU created the award with the intent to salute founder and past AAU president and pioneer in amateur sports, James E. Sullivan, while honoring amateur contributions and achievements from non-professional athletes across the country.
World renowned golfer Robert"Bobby" Jones received the inaugural award in 1930 and swimmer Anne Curtis became the first female to accept the award in 1944. Since then, a number of prominent college athletes have been recognized, including: Bruce Baumgartner (1995), Peyton Manning (1997),Chamique Holdsclaw (1998), J.J. Redick (2005),and Shawn Johnson (2008).Most recently, University of Wisconsin volleyball standout Lauren Carlini took home the award.
The 88th AAU James E. Sullivan Award Presented by Eastbay will be held on April 17, 2018 at the New York Athletic Club. For more information, visit www.aausullivan.org.
